Cricket bat with sealed, spliced blade and twine-bound handle. The rear of the blade has been imprinted, in gold, with the inscription ALL ENGLAND ELEVEN / VERSUS / 22 OF DUNOLLY / AND DISTRICT / 1882 / PRESENTED BY / MR. W. MAYES [? Hayes]** / FOR BEST / BOWLING AVERAGE. Stamped on bat face "SPECIALLY/MADE FOR/ BOYLE & SCOTT MELBOURNE" with maker's inscription on rear "BARTLETT/LONDON/SUPERIOR/SPRING". [** Recorded on Catalogue Worksheet dated 15/4/97 as presented by "Mr. W. Mayes" surname may be "Hayes" - Hayes family owned Dunolly's grocer's shop at the time - needs more research]
