Brief Description
Dark brown lignum vitae (heavy, dense wood) lawn bowl with ivory discs with scrimshaw design. The disc inside the inner grip rings of the small circle features the initial B in black with black borders. The maker's mark, "W.D. HENSELL / MELBOURNE / STANDARD", is engraved around outside of this disc and inside of the inner circle; the size of the bowl (4 15/16) is stamped above this; three stamps of Australia with numbers and letters stamped on either side of the outer rings, the two on the outside featuring the letters and year, "A / B / C / 193(1?)". The stamp, "A / B / C / 1930", is also stamped inside the inner circle. The larger disc inside the inner rings of the large grip rings features the initials LB (standing for the owner Louis Belinfante), with black rim. Used c. 1930s and as late as 1954.
