Brief Description
Bronze medal awarded to Shirley Strickland for 3rd place in the 100 metres at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. Strickland won her first Olympic title at these Games, a world-record breaking win in the 80 m hurdles. 'XV/ OLYMPIA/ HELSINKI/ 1952' debossed on obverse, next to an image of a lady cradling a sheaf of wheat, holding a laurel wreath above her head. The reverse features an image of a naked young man being hoisted on the shoulders of a crowd of other young men.
