Brief Description
Chromolithograph, full-length portrait drawing of Samuel "Sammy" M.J. Woods (cricketer) in cricket whites, against a light grey dappled background. Woods stands contraposto with his left-side and back to the viewer but head in profile, left leg forward and is cupping a cricket ball in his right hand. He wears a light blue sash around his waist which forms a V at the back. Tan-coloured shoes. Woods' signature is reproduced in two places, one at the at lower right of the image under his foot, the other directly beneath on the white border, to the right of an inscription reading "SAMMY", his nickname. The pseudonym of the artist "Stuff" - Henry Charles Seppings Wright - is printed at lower left. Below the image l.l. is the lithographer 'Vincent Brooks, Day & Son'; above left VANITY FAIR and above right the date 'August 6th 1892'. Hinge-mounted on white foam board with cream window mount., reg. no. has "M6211B" crossed out on reverse.
