Brief Description
Silver medal awarded to Shirley Strickland for her 2nd place run in the Women's 100 yards at the 1950 British Empire Games. This medal was one of four won by Strickland at these Games, including another silver in the 220 yards; a gold in the 80 metre hurdles; and another gold in the 220 x 110 x 220 x 110 yards relay. 'BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES/ 1950' debossed on obverse of medal, around an image of a helmeted winged lady holding aloft a laurel wreath with her right hand, and a trident held in her left. The reverse features leaves and flowers around the edge, with a small map of New Zealand inside a laurel wreath at the bottom. Engraved in the centre is WOMEN/ 100 YARDS/ S. STRICKLAND/ AUSTRALIA.
