Brief Description
Bronze medal awarded to Shirley Strickland for third place in the women's 80m hurdles at the 1948 London Olympic Games. Strickland also won at these Olympics a bronze medal in the 100m and a silver medal in the 4x100 m relay. The medal features in relief the image of a man being held on shoulders above the crowd, and on the reverse is the image of a woman cradling a sheath in one hand and a laurel wreath in the other. The text reads XIVth OLYMPIAD/ LONDON / 1948. The medal was designed by Giusseppi Cassioli and minted by John Pinches Ltd.
