Brief Description
Black and white photograph showing Shirley Strickland standing on a grassy field next to another female athlete, Maureen Gardner, with the Duke of Edinburgh standing next to them, finger in the air. Other men in suits and hats mill around. Shirley wears a white athletic top with the number '12', and white shorts and dark shoes. P.A.- REUTER PHOTO has been printed on a white strip along the bottom edge of the photo. A purple P.A.- REUTER stamp is on the reverse, along with a lengthy inscription which reads in part WHITE CITY THURSDAY 12 AUG 1948/ EMPIRE V USA. AFTER 80M HURDLES.
