Brief Description
Black and white photograph showing Shirley Strickland standing on a grassy field next to another female athlete, with the Duke of Edinburgh standing next to them, finger in the air. Other men in suits and hats mill around. Shirley wears a white athletic top with the number '12', and white shorts and dark shoes. P.A.- REUTER PHOTO has been printed on a white strip along the bottom edge of the photo. A purple P.A.- REUTER stamp is on the reverse, along with a lengthy inscription which reads in part WHITE CITY THURSDAY 12 AUG 1948/ EMPIRE V USA. AFTER 80M HURDLES.
