Object Detail
Brief Description
Polished cricket ball with engraved sterling silver shield mounted onto it. Inscription reads, "PRESENTED BY / V. C. A. / TO / H. IRONMONGER / HAT TRICK / VIC. v ENGLAND / 1925". Ironmonger achieved this feat by cleaning out the English tail-enders during the 1st Innings. It was a Pyrrhic victory, however, since the English had already achieved a 1st Innings score of 500 runs. England went on to comprehensively win the match by an Innings and 271 runs. Overall, Ironmonger's bowling figures for the match were a respectable 5/93 - the only highlight in Victoria's performance.
