Brief Description
Red leather commemorative cricket ball with encircling silver band. With this ball Frank Laver took 8 wickets for 31 runs in the first innings of a Test match at Old Trafford. The engraved text on the band reads, "8 WICKETS FOR 31 RUNS / FRANK LAVER / ENGLAND VS AUSTRALIA / JULY 1909". There are six parallel cotton seams running around the ball, and the makers mark on the back is for BOYLE AND SCOTT/ 5 1/2 OZ/ MELBOURNE. The back of the silver band is hallmarked "Birmingham, England, 1909", with the letters E.S.P.
