Letter - handwritten on lined paper - from Jack Melville: 'Dear Ted/ In accordance with/ your request re opening match on our ground, made enquiries &/ found that we played Collingwood F.C./ on the 22nd June 1897./ Hoping this is what you wanted/ Yours faithfully/ Jack Melville'. The game referred to is the first match played by Carlton at Princes Park. Jack Melville played a big part in the formation of the AFL football team, Carlton and the formation of the VFL.
