Object Detail

Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian all-rounder, Jack Gregory (1895-1973). The artist's image number - 41 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled date '1921'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 1920/21, in his second Test, Gregory scored 100 (off 115 balls) batting at number eight, and took 7 for 69 and 1 for 32 against England at the MCG. In 24 Tests (1920-28), Gregory captured 85 wickets at an average of 31.15, scored 1146 runs at 36.96, and took 37 catches. He was Wisden 'Cricketer of the Year' in 1922.
