Object Detail
Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Test cricketer (and Australian Rules footballer), Warwick Windridge Armstrong (1879-1947). The artist's image number - 40 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 50 Tests (1902-1921), Armstrong - an all-rounder - captured 87 wickets at an average of 33.59, scored 2863 runs at 38.68, and took 44 catches. He played 16 games for South Melbourne Football Club from 1899 to 1900. In 2000, Armstrong has been inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
