Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Rules footballer,Tom Fitzmaurice (1898-1977), in Essendon Football Club colours. The artist's image number - 38 - and subject's name and club are handwritten below the design, with the pencilled year '1923'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Fitzmaurice played with a number of VFL clubs: Essendon 1918-20 and 1922-24 (85 games, 30 goals), Geelong 1925-28 (49 games, 20 goals), and North Melbourne 1932-35 (54 games, 196 goals). He also played for Yarraville in the VFA.
