Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian Rules footballer, Wayne Carey. The artist's original image number (183) and subject's name, and original club name, are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which has been signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. 'King' Carey was a powerful, match-winning, centre half-forward who played 244 games, kicked 671 goals, and won four club Best & Fairest awards for the North Melbourne Football Club between 1989 and 2001. He played one season (2003) for the Adelaide Crows where he kicked his 700th league goal.
