Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian Test cricketer, Fred 'the Demon' Spofforth (1853-1926), included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The artist's original image number - 13 - and subject's name and some career details, are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with the grid lines and references for the layout of the tapestry, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. In 1996, Spofforth was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
