Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's watercolour image of the first Aboriginal Cricket Team which played the Melbourne Cricket Club at the MCG in 1866. The names of the team members represented are handwritten above and below the image (standing, left to right): Bullocky [Bullchana(c)h], Tarpot [Jimmy Murrumgunerrimin], T.C. Wills (coach and captain), Johnny Mullagh [Unaarrimin], and Red Cap [Brimbunyah]; (seated, l-r) Dick-a-Dick [Jungunjinanuke], Johnny Cuzens, Mosquito [Grongarrong Grongarro], Twopenny [Jarrawuk], Jim Crow [Lytejerbillijun], and King Cole [Brippokei/Bripumyarrinain]. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the Melbourne Cricket Ground. A sheet of tracing paper, with the grid references for the layout of the tapestry, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist.
