Brief Description
A trowel used by John Cain on the 23rd October 1985 for the laying of the foundation stone of the Australian Gallery of Sport. A sample of the mudstone from beneath the building during the foundation excavation in May 1985 is housed with the trowel that has a small plaque attached to the handle. The engraved text on the plaque reads in part "AUSTRALIAN GALLERY OF SPORT / Hon John Cain M.P..."
