Brief Description
Single page from the 16 May 1896 edition of the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, loosely mounted on cream-coloured card. The obverse (p.399) has a full-page print of scenes from the 1896 match between Lord Sheffield's XI and Australia at Sheffield Park in Sussex, the first fixture of the Australian's 1896 tour. The central image shows Australian captain George Trott batting at the crease, with the caption "The Australian Captain at the Wicket" printed below. Three smaller images are featured including one of W.G. Grace bowling, captioned "The Doctor bowling". Below the main illustration is the title "THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS AT SHEFFIELD PARK". On the reverse (p.400) of the sheet are illustrations of a theatrical production, "KING HENRY IV. AT THE HAYMARKET".
