Brief Description
Single page from the 15 August 1896 edition of the Illustrated London News, loosely mounted on cream-coloured card. On the obverse (p.197) is a full-page print with illustrations of the third and final 1896 Ashes test at the Kennington Oval. The central image shows W.G. Grace and Albert Trott, captioned "The Doctor wins the toss from Trott". The other images are of cricketers and spectators. Below a double line border is printed "THE FINAL CRICKET MATCH BETWEEN ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIA AT THE OVAL". On the reverse of the sheet (p.198) are three columns of text which include obituaries and public notices, and five head and shoulder portraits.
