Object Detail

Brief Description
Silver-plate on copper tray. Engraving features a coat-of-arms with the Ashes Urn, as the arms, emblazoned with the number 100 above a wicket crossed by two bats with a ball beneath. Urn is supported by a lion 'rampant' at left, and a kangaroo at right. The crest is a wicket being set by Father Time with his left hand. He also holds his hour glass in his right hand. His scythe rests on his left shoulder. The coat-of-arms is flanked by Lord's to the left, and the MCG to the right. Beneath the coat-of-arms is the inscription, "PRESENTED TO / MELBOURNE CRICKET CLUB / BY THE / AUSTRALIAN BOARD of CONTROL FOR INTERNATIONAL CRICKET / IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FIRST MATCH PLAYED / ON THE / MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND AGAINST AN ALL ENGLAND XI / 1st. January 1862 / 1862 -1962". Makers details on underside, "HECWORTH / REPRODUCTION OLD SHEFFIELD".
