Brief Description
Colour print of an engraving done in a cartoon style, showing a cricket match being played out entirely by women, some with their skirts tucked into their waistbands. Inscription below the picture reads, in part, "On Wednesday October 3rd 1811 A Singular Cricket Match took place at Balls Pond Newington. The Players on both sides were 22 Women 11 Hampshire against 11 Surrey". Surrounded by a mustard- coloured windowmount. "ENGRAVING IN THE / STYLE OF / CRUICKSHANK" handwritten in blue ink on reverse.
