Brief Description
Lithograph, coloured ink on off-white paper, of a man in dark pants, long jacket, top hat, and bow-tie. He stands, right hand tucked into his cream waistcoat, some white cloth sticking out of his right pocket. In the background is a large building with small groups of people in front. Printed underneath image is "THE UMPIRE./ WILLIAM CALDERCOURT [sic], born at Blisworth in 1802." [ the correct spelling is Caldecourt]. Printed l.l. immediately below image "Sketches at Lords No. 2". Printed l.r. immediately below image "John C. Anderson del et lith." Printed in the centre below the title " London, Published by John Corbet Anderson, 40 Church Road de Beauvoir Square Kingsland , March 1st 1852, and by F. Lillywhite, 10 Princes Terrace, Caledonian Road Islington." Object has been housed in a hinged windowmount, using archival tape.
