Brief Description
Lithograph of a cricket match taking place at the ground of the Calcutta Cricket Club in 1861, H.M. 68th L.I. from Rangoon versus The Calcutta Cricket Club. The viewpoint is from the boundary, looking at the pitch from fine leg. The cricketers are all wearing khaki fatigues and pith helmets. In the right-foreground is a pitch roller, and on the opposite side of the boundary is a marquee with spectators gathered inside. Large buildings are in the distance, most notably the Raj Badhan or Government House, on the left of the picture. The cricket match being depicted is specified in the title which is printed below the image: "GROUND OF THE CALCUTTA CRICKET CLUB, 15th JANy. 1861 / H.M. 68th L.I. FROM RANGOON, VERSUS THE CALCUTTA CRICKET CLUB". Signed on the image l.l., "P. Carpenter delt.", and printed l.r. below the image "Day & Son Lithrs. to The Queen".
