Object Detail

Brief Description
Colour lithograph showing 2nd Regiment Royal East-India Volunteer soldiers in black boots, white breeches, red jackets and busbies, standing to attention as two large flags are being exchanged. The image has a dark border with gold trim, and a Latin motto in a plaque at the top ("LABOR / IMPROBUS OMNIA / VINCIT"). Below the image in gold lettering "To the Honorable the Superintending Military Committee of Field Officers of the Royal East-India/Volunteers,/ This Drawing of their secd. Regiment taken on the fpot]sic] while Receiveing[sic[ the Colours from the hands of Lady Jane Dundas, (in Lord's Cricket Ground,/Mary le Bone) on the 27th Day of July, 1791, Is Respectfully presented by their Most Obedient Humble Servant, Henry Matthews." . It is unlikely that the print was made at the time of the event depicted: written on the reverse is "1841" which seems a more likely date of production. housed in white folder and reg number inscribed bottom left reverse.
