Brief Description
Large black and white mezzotint, engraved by Richard Dunkarton after a painting by William Redmore Bigg, titled, "THE SOLDIER'S WIDOW; OR, SCHOOL BOYS ' COLLECTION.". They are shown holding cricket equipment and a kite, as well as the soldier's sword, and are all of sombre expression, shown making a collection to give to the widow. Inscriptions along bottom edge of image read, "PRINTED BY W.R. BIGG"; "PUBLISHED 2D. AUG.T 1800, BY W.R. BIGG, GATE STREET, LINCOLN'S INN FIELDS, LONDON."; and "ENGRAVED BY R. DUNKARTON." Inscriptions beneath include in English and French the title of the work and excerpts from a poem. Cream window mount; black and gold wood frame.
