Brief Description
Chromolithograph depicting a large number of schoolboys wearing uniforms and mortar-board hats sitting, standing and playing cricket amid the medieval ruins of Roche Abbey, Yorkshire. An inscription below the image reads: 'A GAME AT CRICKET. / AT ROCHE ABBEY IN YORKSHIRE, ON THE HOLIDAY GIVEN TO THE STUDENTS OF / WESLEY COLLEGE.' The print is house in a cream window mount shaped to fit the image and inscription, inside a black and gold wood frame. An inscription on a piece of paper affixed to verso reads Vicars Brothers Ltd/ Fine Art Dealers/Pearlstein and Publishers/12 Old Bond Street, London, W.I,: 'OLD COLOURED LITHOGRAPH / TITLE: A GAME OF CRICKET AT ROCHE ABBEY, SHEFFIELD 1844 / ARTIST (undecipherable) / NO. 45744 REF DB 358/OT.'
