Brief Description
Photograuve print of an eighteenth-century cricket match being played at Hambledon in Hampshire. The viewpoint is a side-on angle of the wicket from the boundary, and shows two scorers sitting at a table in the foreground, fielders wearing stockings, breeches, shirts and brimmed hats, and two umpires in dark coats holding curved bats. A house is to the left of the pitch, and a church tower is in the distance. Printed centre below the image are publisher details:"'Published August 17th 1908 by Messrs. Fores, 41 Piccadilly, London W."; the title is printed l.r.c. 'A Match at Hambledon 1777 / ("The Cradle of Cricket")'.
