Brief Description
Hand coloured etching of a cricket match at Harrow School in Middlesex; titled "Harrow - Cricket Match - Household Brigade v Harrow" etched by Walter A. Cox after painting by Henry M. Hemy 1887. The image is a side-on view of an unusually short wicket, showing the two batsmen, fielders and umpire. The umpire at the bowler's end wears a black coat and top hat; the fielding side wear red striped caps and the batsmen have caps with blue stripes. On the far side of the playing field is a pavilion and a large number of spectators (school children) sit around the boundary. Beyond the field are several buildings including a chapel.On the image l.l. is the painter's name & date "Tom M. Hemy/1887" with below the image l.l. printed "painted by T.M. Hemy". On the image l.r. is the etcher's name "W.A. Cox Sc" with below the image l.r. printed "Etched by Walter A. Cox". Underneath the image l.r.c. is the title of the work: "Harrow _ Cricket Match _ Household Brigade v Harrow". Above the image, printed u.c. the publisher and date details " London, Published Nov. 1 1888 by Messrs. Dickinsons, Publishers to The Queen, 114 New Bond Street W, Copyright Registered". The print is loosely mounted behind marbled card.
