Brief Description
Hand coloured etching, a cartoon titled, "THE CRICKET PLAYERS OF EUROPE". Image features royal figures competing on the cricket field, Maria Theresa [Austria] bowls to Fredericlk II of Prussia. The figures pass comments on the state of the game. The bats are inscribed with words - including 'folly','ingratitude', 'treachery & infidelity', 'cunning', 'deceit', 'fortitude', and 'strength & will'. The blankets in the foreground are inscribed with the names of European countries and (German) principalities. A poem is printed below the cartoon: 'Behold! the Wondrous Game. Behold!/ See Kingdoms stake'd in lieu of Gold/ ... '. "1757" handwritten in pencil l.r. corner.
