Brief Description
Colour etching of staff and pupils at Marlborough College in Wiltshire. The image is set in the school grounds, with the chapel and other school buildings framing an open area where a large group of figures wearing military fatigues are standing in formation. In the foreground, to the right side, are a group of five masters wearing gowns and mortar boards, and to the left are six boys wearing cricket whites, blazers and boater hats. Beyond the military parade, boys in uniform are riding penny farthing bicycles. The image is surrounded by a plain border with the publisher's details printed above 'London, Published July 8th 1889 by Messrs. Dickinsons, Publishers to The Queen, 114 New Bond Street W. Copyright Registered'. Below the image, handwritten in pencil are the following: l.l. 'F.P. Barraud'; in the centre the title "Marlborough - the Court, with portraits" and l.r. 'William J. Allingham". Print Sellers Association stamp (damaged) l.l. below the image with 'V D(?)' stamped centre. The print is housed in a modern window mount with green trim and marbled border.
