Brief Description
Hand coloured etching of a cricket match on the Rossall School playing fields at Fleetwood in Lancashire. The match is taking place on the promenade, with a church and tall mast or flagpole beyond, and the town on the right. The viewpoint is from behind the batsman. A group of spectators are in the foreground to the right, and other groups are on the other side of the oval. The image is surrounded by a plain border. Printed centre above the image are the publisher's details: 'London, Published April 2nd 1891 by Messrs. Dickinson & Foster, Publishers to The Queen, 114 New Bond Street W. Copyright Registered'. Handwritten in pencil below the image l.l. artist/etcher's name 'F.P. Barraud'; centre the title "Rossall - General view from the Cricket Field"; and l.r. artist/etcher 'William Allingham'. The print is housed in a modern window mount of grey and off-white marbled card.
