Brief Description
Hand-coloured etching of Charterhouse School in London. Two cricket matches are being played on an open field in front of the main school buildings. Sitting down in the foreground are fourteen boys, most wearing school uniform, watching the cricket. Beyond the playing field, spectators line the boundary. A plain border surrounds the image and below centre is printed a small shield bearing the crest of the school with the image title written in pencil either side of the shield: "Charterhouse / Old Carthusians Day". On the image, l.l. the artist's name 'F.G. Stevenson'. Below the image written in pencil l.l. artist/etcher's name 'A.H. Wardlow' and in pencil l.r., below the image 'F.G. Stevenson'. The publisher's details are printed centre above the image 'London, Published Dec. 2nd 1889 by Messrs. Dickinson & Foster, Publishers to The Queen, 114 New Bond Street W. Copyright Registered'.
