Object Detail
Brief Description
Hand coloured etching of Edinburgh showing the castle in the background, and in the foreground six figures playing shinty. The viewpoint is from the south of the city looking north, and the shinty players are on an area of parkland called Bruntsfield Links. The skyline of Edinburgh takes in the upper portion of the High Street, with the castle on the left and the distinctive lantern tower of St Giles Cathedral to the right. Below the image is the title "A View of EDINBURGH" and to the right, a small inscription reading "Slack". The print can be compared with another copy held in the Edinburgh Central Library which is dated 1798.
