Brief Description
Engraving, coloured ink on off- white paper. Cartoon-style drawing, slightly derogatory, of a cricket match between two teams of women, some with their dresses tucked into their waistbands, as they run between wickets, and fall over trying to catch the ball. Text underneath image reads "RURAL SPORTS OR A CRICKET MATCH EXTRAORDINARY./ On Wednesday October 3rd 1811. A Singular Cricket Match took place at Balls Pond Newington. The Players on both sides were 22 Women, 11 Hampshire against 11 Surrey. The Match was made between ...(rest of text mostly illegible).. " Housed in a hinged windowmount with Mylar sleeve, held in place by archival tape. M6462.1 & M6462.2 were originally mounted together in a single frame.
