Object Detail

Brief Description
Satirical print of a batsman and wicket keeper, depicted as personifications of Britain and Ireland. The print shows a face-on view of a bearded batsman (who resembles W.G. Grace), taking his stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing a red, white and blue belt and a Union Jack cap. Written on the bails behind him is the word "UNION". The wicket keeper is a personification of Ireland, and he wears a green cap with a clover on the front. The artist's name, "Tom Merry" is in the lower-right, and in the border below the image is printed the title, "NOT OUT YET". The item is housed in a modern window mount of green-coloured card. Printed above the image text in blue which has been trimmed, so only the lower section is visible; text probably reads "St. Stephen's Review Presentation Cartoon July 6th 1889".
