Brief Description
Painting in brown on grey paper, with highlights scratched into the paper to reveal white underneath. It depicts a heavily bearded man (W.G. Grace) wearing a striped cap with a bat under his arm, looking over a bar or through a wide-silled window. Sketched in the background are men in suits wearing top hats. Originally in a wooden varnished frame, with sticker bottom left "574". Verso label "Parker Gallery London" and Exhibition label "Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield/ July 1955/ 'Two Centuries of Cricket Art' / title: W.G. Grace; /artist: Hodson/ cat no: 78/ Lent by Mr. J.W. Goldman". Verso l.r.c. paper stamp reads in part "Erasing/C. Rowney/Londo".
