Brief Description
Colour print of school boys playing on an open area of lawn in front of stone and brick buildings. The boys are all wearing jackets with tails, trousers, and some have top hats. They are engaged in various activities including a group playing cricket to the left side of the image. The subject of the print, along with details of its producers, are given below ion inscriptions that read "VIEW OF READING SCHOOL & PLAYGROUND / Dedicated by Permifsion / To the Revd R. VALPY, D.D. F.A.S. and the GENTLEMEN of READING SCHOOL / by their very humble and respectful Servant / EDMUND HAVELL". In the centre of this dedication is a an oval-shaped emblem featuring a portrait of Edward VII and with a Latin motto below. The print is loosely mounted behind a red-coloured mount. Printed immediately below the image l.l. "Drawn by E. Havell". and l.r. "Engraved by R. Havell & Son/3 Chapel St. Tottenham Court Road".
