Object Detail

Brief Description
Monochrome lithograph of a cricket match at Magdalen Cricket Ground, Oxford. Several figures are standing in the foreground including men wearing suits and top hats, women with bonnets and shawls, and a young girl carrying a cricket bat. Just behind them is a side-on view of the wicket, with a bowler about to release an overarm delivery. On the far side of the ground are several figures, some on horseback, and three large marquees. The 'dreaming spires' of Oxford can be seen in the distance. Below the image is printed a dedication that reads "This Print of / THE MAGDALEN CRICKET GROUND / taken during a Grand Match, is most respectfully Dedicated to / THE MEMBERS OF THE MAGDALEN CLUB, / by their obedient and humble servant, [...]", and two shields with crests. The name of the draughtsman 'E V Richardson ' is just below the image to the right, and below that the word "PROOF". The print is housed in a modern card window mount.
