Brief Description
Painting of three boys (the Godson brothers) playing cricket at Eton' painted by Sir Martin Archer Shee in 1841. The boys are dressed in smart outfits with large white collars, and stand on a path with grassy hills and woodland in the background. The boy to the left holds a cricket ball and points towards his brother holding a bat. The boy in the middle has his right arm around the shoulder of his brother to his right, and holds a cricket bat in his other hand. The boy to his left stands in front of a wicket, ready to strike a ball (unseen) with his bat. An inscription written on a gold painted plaque mounted onto the lower centre section of the frame reads: 'THE GODSON BROTHERS/at ETON./Sir Martin Archer Shee, R.A. c.1841'.
