Brief Description
Watercolour on paper showing a cricket match in progress on a sporting ground, with village buildings in the background. The players are wearing 18th Century clothing, the stumps number two, and the bats the players hold are in the club-like shape of the late 1700's. On the reverse is a typed label with title: "Lord Sackviller's Team/ versus/ All England, 1746. / The ground is said to be/ The Vine, Sevenoaks."; typed below on the label & crossed out "Bt. of M. Isaacs, February 1940". Art gallery exhibition label with typewritten inscription which reads"Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield, July 1955/ "Two Centuries of Cricket Art/Lord Sackville's Team v. All England 1946 "The Vines" (from Colman Coll. ) artist Unknown No. 104 (crossed out in red & " G.57" added). Typed bottom of the label & crossed out "Lent by Mr. J.W. Goldman". Handwritten text at the bottom reads DUNKINFIELD LODGE. Mounted on thin dark tan card.
