Object Detail
Brief Description
Series of four watercolour and ink cartoons on paper, mounted together. The images show a man dressed in various arrangements of clothing decorated with stars and stripes, and polka dots, with elongated 'clown' shoes. The figure is shown in four different cricket scenes, which include being struck to the body by a cricket ball, with the final image showing the figure bandaged and using crutches for support. Each artwork is signed and dated; the date is l.r. '1886 '; the signature is l.l. "George Cruikshank" (the surname appears to read Cruikshank with a superimposed 'X' across the surname. Given this and the 1886 date, further investigation is required). The artwork is surrounded by green card mount with white and tan inner border.
