Brief Description
Portrait painting of former Melbourne Cricket Club Secretary Ian Johnson by Sir William Dargie. Johnson is depicted wearing a blue suit, seated cross-legged in a chair, his left hand resting on his lap and his right hand on the arm of the chair. The artist's signature is bottom left. The image is glazed and framed in a moulded, gilded, wooden frame. A plaque attached to the frame below the image is inscribed, "IAN JOHNSON CBE / SECRETARY 1957-1983 / Artist: Sir William Dargie". Prior to his appointment as MCC Secretary, Ian Johnson played 45 cricket matches for Australia between 1945/46 and 1956/7, and was Captain of the Australian Test cricket team in 1955 and 1956.
