Brief Description
Three-quarter length portrait of a standing man [Hans Ebeling] with his right hand in his trouser pocket, and his left elbow resting on the edge of a shelf. The work is housed in an ornate, gilt swept, wooden frame, and is covered by a sheet of acrylic glass. Artwork is signed l.l., and dated, P. Fitzgerald 1972. A plaque below the image is inscribed 'H.I. EBELING M.B.E./ President 1979-80'. Hans Ebeling was elected as an MCC Committee member in 1934 and as Vice-President of the club in 1954. Prior to his term as President, he was one of the main organisers of the 1977 Centenary Test. He was also Chairman of the MCC Bowls Section for 10 years. Ebeling played cricket for Victoria from 1923/24 to 1937/38, and in 1934 he was a member of the Australian Team to tour England where he played a number of First Class matches and the Fifth Test of the series at The Oval.
