Object Detail

Brief Description
Large silver metal and polished wood shield, inscription etched into metal with red and black decoration reads 'V.C.A. / PREMIERSHIP. /A / 1894 - 1895. WON BY / THE / M.C.C.' At top is etched a depiction of two cricket bats crossed in front of a wicket with a ball beneath, and at bottom, a depiction of a wicket-keeper poised behind a wicket. Almost exactly the same design as M6851 except that there is more colouring on M6851; the metal plate on that shield has been affixed to the wood backing with nails (which have moved, making the plate unstable); and that the name of the maker, J.S. Paterson, appears on that shield but not this one. That maker has been attributed to this shield because of the similarity.
