Brief Description
Political poster with a colour image of a cricketer being bowled out. The poster is titled "THE NATIONAL (DIS)GRACE TESTIMONIAL", and below is the word "BOWLED!" The image shows a cricketer swinging his bat, with a ball striking the stumps behind him. The three stumps are labelled "WELSH DISESTABLISHMENT", "HOME RULE" and "LOCAL VETO", and the ball is labelled "BRODRICK MOTION". Artist l.r. on image 'Tom Merry; stamped below image l.l. 'Henderson & Spalding' printers & publishers. The poster relates to the late-19th / early-20th century movement to disestablish the Anglican Church in Wales. The Liberal party supported disestablishment, but the Conservatives were opposed. The Welsh Disestablishment Act was eventually passed in 1920.
