Object Detail

Brief Description
Monochrome lithograph print of a building with people standing outside, one holding a cricket bat. The print is titled "EXTERIOR OF SCHOOL ROOM", and it depicts one of the buildings of Winchester College, known as 'School'. The building was constructed in the 1680s, and is made from brick and stone. There are seven bays with large windows, and in the centre a niche with a statue. Above the bays are stone-carved garlands, and above the central three bays, a pediment, with entablature running around the top. The building's entrance has a portico with a small rounded arch above. Details of the draughtsman, publisher and printer are below the image. This was one of a series of four prints which showed scenes of Winchester College. Writing on reverse reads "14B".
