Object Detail

Brief Description
Colour engraving of youngsters playing cricket in front of Charterhouse School, Surrey. The title identifies the scene as "CHARTER HOUSE / from the Play Ground". The composition is framed by large trees on the left. The figures playing cricket seem to be young boys, who wear breeches and waistcoats. Schoolmasters dressed in cloaks and mortar boards are standing around. The school building is a mixture of architectural styles. The names of the draughtsman and engraver are printed below the image, and underneath the title is printed "London, Pubd. July 1 1816, at 101 Strand, for R. Ackermann's History of Charter House School".
