Colour lithographic caricature of Fred Spofforth (cricketer), standing in striped blazer, cap, sash, and tie, with white pants and shirt. At lower right of image is the signature "SPY" , the pseudonym for the artist Leslie Ward. In the top and bottom borders is the inscription: "VANITY FAIR July 13 1878/Vincent Brooks Day & Son, Lith./"The Demon bowler" ".
