Brief Description
Eighteenth-century engraving of cricket being played at White Conduit Fields. The image is contained within an oval-shaped border which has the series title printed above, "Six PRINTS of MANLY RECREATION, as practised in PUBLIC PLACES in and about LONDON", and the title of the print below, "CRICKET, Played by the Gentlemen's Club, White Conduit House, Islington". The image shows a side-on view of the wicket, with small stumps, curved bat and underarm bowling action being used. Two figures are in the foreground, one of whom appears to be the scorer. In the background is a wooden fence, with several buildings beyond. Writing on reverse reads "1". Item has "M8556" crossed out.
